Established in 1902 . . . The Singing Society Norden was started by Swedish immigrants who desired to further the activity of Swedish singing in America. The original singers appeared all over the nation entertaining presidents and other dignitaries. At one time, the bylaws required that all members hail from Sweden. These rules were gradually relaxed as times changed. Today, the Norden exists as a thriving social and civic organization with a diverse membership from Fairfield and New Haven Counties and beyond. Membership is open to all over the age of twenty-one. Events include parties, dances, concerts, dinners, children's activities, outings and cause-related programs. We feel strongly about our involvement with the neighbors who live around us. Although the Norden Club is primarily a social organization, part of our mission is to enable community groups to share our facilities, services and voluntarism. The Club has forged a strong bond with various Bridgeport-area groups and organizations, including The Barnum Festival, The Bridgeport Bluefish, Little League, The Bridgeport Boat owners Association, the Black Rock Community Council, and many others. |
